Christmas centerpiece decorations

flowers - show and tell area

Last Sunday, on November 7th, we went to the November meeting of the Canadian Geranium and Pelargonium Society, in the Cedar Room at the VanDusen Botanical Gardens, as usual.

The "Show & Tell" table was situated in the left side of the room and were many plants presented there — including two of the grafting plant project from last year (Kleiner Liebling).

Some of the things that were discussed were preventive methods and how to treat with pesticide and eliminate undesired invasive plants ("weeds" or "pests").

I was very impressed by Christmas table centerpieces workshop. All of us are waiting the Christmas Season and is time to decorate our homes with Christmas decorations.

" When Christmas Day comes, thee is still the same warm feeling we had as children, the same warmth that enfolds our hearts and our homes" Joan Winmill Brown, American author and editor.

Margaret Nakahara created one amazing arrangement using floral foam / oasis, greenery, pine-cones, acrylic paint, candles, garlands and other Holiday ornaments. The greenery used was Pyramidal White Cedar (Thuja occidentalis 'Pyramidalis') and Camellia branches which added variety and leaf texture.

During her demonstrative presentation she underlined how important the design lines are: each greenery line should have odd number of branches (5 or 7 pieces), the candle should be installed in plastic candle socket, in the middle of moisten floral foam. Then following imaginary lines between candle base and the greenery edges (direct line) and between the candle top and the greenery edges (indirect lines) keep the radial focus when set the greenery. In the end she guided us in creating our own arrangements.

 Christmas Centerpiece

Perhaps I will make few more arrangements to decorate my house for Christmas, (and what a great opportunity to re-use my Western Red Cedar's bonsai clippings ).
