October Meeting of the Canadian Geranium and Pelargonium Society

Last Sunday we went to the October meeting of the Canadian Geranium & Pelargonium Society and we were greeted with a warm welcome when we arrived.

The meeting was held in the Cedar Room in the Floral Hall at the VanDusen Botanical Gardens in Vancouver, as usual.  When you entered the room, in the left side, on the table were arranged two areas where could be admired geraniums and pelargoniums plants: the Parlour Show area and the Project plants area.

We enjoyed one featured presentation about the principal topic of this meeting: Disease control for overwintering pelargoniums. I am sure many members were surprised to hear the large number of diseases who are and were interested to discuss about causal agents and how can be controlled the extend of these problems.

The speaker explained as that if you notice mealy bugs presence on the stems and leaves of the plant, you can be sure the plants have also root mealy bugs. Although the infected plant used for the presentation was treated previously, none of the topical treatments wasn't helpful in fighting against mealy bugs from the root system. He explained us that usually the infested plant should  be put in quarantine and the soil infested with mealy bugs should be sterilized.

For this special occasion we were happy to present  three "scented" pelargoniums crafts in  the Parlour and Lore Show section.
